Legend of the Galactic Heroes 19: Yang’s Fleet Moves Out

Hello, here I discuss episode 19, an Alliance episode where Yang responds to Reinhardt’s operation to implant a bunch of imperial agents who want to disrupt the Free Planet Alliance. It’s pretty cool to see the FPA fall apart and Yang try to salvage the situation.

There’s a lot of politicking in this episode. I suppose that’s not unique to this one!
Ironically I imagine Bernie Sanders would probably love this show, since it resonates with his whole “young, capable people being proactive in politics” appeal.

It was a good episode, much like a lot of the other episodes.
Look at him, don’t you just want to follow Yang Wen-Li into battle?
Or would you rather pledge allegiance to a puppet child?

Legend of the Galactic Heroes getting licensed and distributed in the United States is a pretty big piece of news in my humble opinion. It finally happened. After all these years, it finally happened.
Today’s episode is about Oberstein and Lohengramm’s political ambitions, maneuvering on the political terrain in the Kaiser’s court in the wake of the Iserlohn Invasion. It’s pretty good.

This is an episode filled with action, and it even has its own funny moments.
Drunk Soldiers who have no idea what is going on when the invasion happens. The Empire for the most part is caught off-guuard
Which is why they call him Miracle Yang

Another episode over Legend of the Galactic Heroes, this time we see the continued development of Lohengramm’s rise to power and the scheming by Phezzan in influencing the affair.
There’s a lot of negotiation over nobility, with the critique of the corrupt nobles and all that.

Here is the long list of other people in the Lohengramm camp who become pretty important later on in the series.

Here’s another installment in our episode-to-episode coverage of Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
This episode establishes the backstory of Siegfried Kircheis and Reinhardt Von Lohengramm as they receive promotions from the King for their exploits at the Battle of Astate.
We see Reinhardt, motivated with contempt for the decadent nobles who ask their subjects to die for them while they host flamboyant parties at the palace and take from those beneath them.

Here’s another installment in our episode-to-episode coverage of the SF anime classic, Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
I really do like how small both Jessica Edwards and Secretary of Defense Truniht are, the enormous stage adds to that overwhelming sense of producing, via imaginative and physical labor, the monolithic idea of the nation-state with no actual referent other than the small people who work with and confront each other.
This image is also pretty gloomy, because it is the second to last shot of the episode before the credits roll. Yang Wen Li becomes the sort of reluctant hero, not just out of survivors guilt but because the category of hero is part of the state propaganda machine that is used by those in charge to get Yang to do what they want him to do, to either die or to do something heroic to increase their popularity.
